Vorige raft tochten elders waren saai, maar tijdens deze tocht volgden de rapids van categorie 2, 3 en 4 elkaar snel op. Omgeving is adembenemend met veel watervallen. Zeer vriendelijk echtpaar, spreken goed Engels en verzorgden na de tocht ook nog een heerlijke lunch. We zouden een volgende keer graag voor een tocht met overnachting kiezen in hun afgelegen lodge aan de rivier. We had the pleasure of doing a private 2 day Pacuare rafting tour under the guidance of Enrique and spending a night in the amazing Ecolodge which his father Manuel has built over many decades. The tour was the highlight of our month in Costa Rica. There’s much to see and do in CR and not to say that seeing Volcanoes is not a highlight, but the combination of rafting down this majestic river, seeing nature in a very personal way and experiencing it as you take on it’s challenges with the help of such experienced individuals is hard to beat and to put into words. Our first day was filled with rapids, a rest stop whilst Enrique prepared us lunch over an upside down raft as a table which was magnificent and then a short paddle down to the riverbank of their Ecolodge where we spent the night. The ecolodge is amazing and the view of the river from the main dining room is spectacular. Our cabin had a beautiful view and a private bathroom. We enjoyed walking around the many tracks the area has to offer but after a day of rafting the hammocks were too good to pas up on. Enrique and Gabriel the live in caretaker prepared us a chicken and mushroom dinner and it was delicious, and the following morning a perfect breakfast. I should also mention the brewed coffee on arrival and in the morning was exactly the right way to end our day and kick off for day two. We began by floating down the river for an early morning wake up and it’s actually quite a lot of fun to do. It put us in a great mood and before long we were again discovering Tucans, Ospreys and Kingfishers along the river plus the wealth of knowledge that was imparted to us by Enrique about the river is more than I can share here but it makes the trip. The rapids were incredible and exhilarating and somehow more fun than day one. I won’t spoil the end but as you finish the last rapid you become enveloped by the mountains as if Costa Rica itself is giving you a goodbye hug. We loved it and can’t recommend CRE enough. They are in point for value, they are extremely professional and experienced and what they offer is a more personal tour than the group masses that can sometimes take away from the experience. Do not fall for the “you get what you pay for” line. There are more expensive tours but they are not better, just more costly. We have just returned from a 2 week holiday in Coast Rica. The highlight of our stay was white water rafting with Manuel, with his son Enrique providing safety support in a kayak (and taking photos with our phone of our adventures). Whilst the Lodge was basic, the location was fabulous, with great views of the river and Crested Oropendola constantly playing to keep you entertained. We were the only guests. It rained heavily overnight and the river rose so much we had to miss the last bit of rafting, and walk out through the jungle... a much longer walk than they suggested, but a great fun adventure in itself. We did a one-day private rafting trip and it was amazing. The experience from beginning to end was just incredible. The river is beautiful, the rapids exhilarating and the staff was just superb (gold medalists in the recent world championship 🥇). We avoided the crowds and never felt rushed or unsafe. The emphasis of the trip was on having fun, maximizing the time on the water and enjoy nature. Rafting with the guides/team at CRE - Pacuare River Ecolodge is an experience you'll never forget! Last month was my second time rafting with them and I swear it was even more amazing the second time around! You are well looked after by professional guides who know how to keep you safe & ensure you have a fun, memorable experience - the best of both worlds! We did a rafting trip with this organization. O.M.G.!!! What a great experience! Definitely a major highlight of our Costa Rica trip. Manuel and his son Enrique took very good care of us on our first river rafting experience. We always felt safe but also had plenty of thrills. The river itself is beautiful, especially a narrow gorge that felt like something Indiana Jones would explore. We stopped midway at the Lodge for lunch, which they cooked for us. Gorgeous place with attention to preserving the natural environment. And along the way, Manuel provided lots of info about the area and its wildlife, the native culture, the tiniest bit of local gossip.
